"Monique Bingham has been responsible for some of the most poignant, soulful jazz-infused house music of the past 20 years. Her career began with the acid jazz band Abstract Truth in 1995 at Francois K‘s legendary Axis studios. The first single, “Get Another Plan” received international critical acclaim and was picked up by Gilles Peterson for his UK imprint, “Talkin Loud” in ‘96. The follow up single, “We Had a Thing” penned and performed by Monique, is an indisputable soulful house classic due in large part to Matthias Matty Heilbronn’s infectious house remix.

What is Changa Tuki?

"For a few years, Pacheko and Pocz have been making their own, spiffed-up version of changa tuki (see “Tuki Love,” above) and helping spread the word about the sound. So far it seems to be working. Pocz & Pacheko have a tuki release coming out Buraka Som Sistema’s Enchufada label in Portugal as part of their “Hard Ass Sessions” series. Pacheko is also helping Mental Groove Records put together tracks for an upcoming compilation titled Changa Tuki Classics.

As for DJ Yirvin, he says he’s getting emails and calls from around the world every day since the documentary hit YouTube. “We’re pushing the sound, and hopefully it will be good for everybody,” says Pacheko, who says he’s committed to bringing up the real-deal tuki producers and dancers with him if the sound blows up internationally. “We started as fans of theirs, but we’ve become friends. It’s like ‘ok, this is our scene now. As long as we keep it original and Venezuelan, we want to be part of it.”

Ms. Barbara Tucker, Queen of House Music’s World Divas

So inspired today by Barbara Tucker’s interactions with her fans on Facebook which she does on a regular basis, your dj must now share her music for the unfamiliar.  Her song “Beautiful People” has sent me on many inward journeys and “I Get Lifted” is an instant pick-me-up to my soul; however, now she is sharing her uplifting words on her Facebook page and it is truly a blessing.  Most of the time Barbara Tucker is in rotation in Funk Sanctum Radio and do not expect that to change.  Every time I hear her, she takes me higher and lifts me immediately.  Better than prescription medication, the antidote for a dreary day or oppressive surroundings, Barbara Tucker will make you feel better and maybe help put life into perspective.  Life is hard, but Barbara Tucker’s voice makes it easier to do “hard.”

Look who I found! Hah! I have known about Laura Jane for so long and she knows she always maintains an honored place in Funk Sanctum Radio and our hearts.  I got lucky and heard about her new release through Radiodirectx.com, and simultaneously with this post I am applying for affilateship with them.

“Laura Jane is an indie soul artist based out of Los Angeles, California. She released her first indie album in 2005 called TO MY PLANET BOO. The album got international airplay and gained critical reviews. Her singles SUMMERTIME IN THE CITY and THE JOURNEY got the most attention with their catchy melodies, smooth harmonies and funky beats. Just don't know what to talk about first. Listening to Funk Sanctum Radio, and the dj Spinna remix of Shaun Escoffery's "Days Like This," played sending me on a hunt for videos of Mr. Escoffery. I can hardly sit in my chair because I am so very excited to share this video with you. I don't remember ever seeing this video, have you? Well, let me know what you think about Shaun Escoffery's voice. He is one of my personal favorites.
