Making your blog "dofollow" is a double edged sword. On the one hand, it'll draw in terrible spammers. On the other hand, there are people like me who will come here for the link, but also look at your posts and read them.
Good luck. It'll be pretty disheartening sometimes, but I think it's worthwhile.
Well, Manhattan, if you are any example of the comments to follow, I say, "Bring them!" Now if everyone just follows your brilliant example of a comment and pens thoughtful, intelligent comments. So happy you stopped by, and i visited your crisp site as well! :)
dj ~ I like the bright funkiness of your site :-) I reckon it goes well. And good on you for going do follow because I have too. Akismet does take care of a lot of spam and if you have a good list of no-allowable words, so far, I haven't had too many unwanted's :-)
Manhattan ~ I had a look at your nice crisp site too. Very nice indeed. Now if I wasn't addicted to living in Hervey Bay Queensland Australia with big sandy beaches and whales visiting twice yearly, I may consider NY....perhaps next life though, huh? :-)

Howdie my Do Follow friend. I think Do Follow is the way to go. Will you get more spammer's? Yep, Will Akismet catch them all? Nope, I just recently changed my spam catcher and talk about it on my blog. I think you will be pleased with it's results, much better than Akismet.
Also, as a Do Follow blog I did find that creating a minimum number of comments required before receiving link love from Do Follow has helped tremendously. I have mine set to 2. After 2 quality comments then all comments receive link juice. That is unless the commenter starts spamming then back to the spam box they go :) Hope all works out for you.
